Insight for the people who keep the plant running from a desk

Purchasing, production planning, engineering, quality, customer service and accounting all run on Windows computers. Insights shows how those teams spend the workday and flags drawings or files leaving on USB drives. It works best where each person signs in to their own computer.

The challenge

The front office is part of production too

Office overhead

Admin and support headcount grows with the business. Few plants know how much of that capacity is used.

ERP and CAD time

Planning lives in the ERP and engineering lives in CAD. Time outside those tools is hard to account for.

Shift handoffs

Office and production schedules don't always line up. Late starts in planning ripple onto the floor.

Drawings and IP

Part drawings, programs and customer specs are valuable. A USB drive can carry years of work out the door.

Shared shop-floor PCs

Terminals near the line are often shared under one login. That changes what any monitoring tool can tell you.

Multiple locations

Teams spread across buildings or sites need the same view, without someone driving between them.

Engineering and planning

See how much time goes to the tools that matter

Application usage ranks the software your team uses by total time. Mark your ERP, CAD and quality software as productive, group them, and see the share of the day spent in real work by person and hour.

  • Activity groups like "ERP", "CAD" and "Quality"
  • Heatmaps by person and hour
  • Categories adjustable by team

Get an alert when files go to a USB drive

The USB file copy alarm flags large copies to removable drives. Add file-sharing site alarms and job search alarms to watch for the patterns that come before IP walks out with a departing employee.

  • USB copy alarm with size thresholds
  • Alerts to email, Microsoft Teams or Slack
  • Alarm log with review and dismiss

Shop-floor terminals need per-user sign-in

Insights attributes activity to the Windows user who is signed in. If a shared terminal uses one generic login, its data will show that login and nothing more. For per-person data, give each worker their own sign-in. Otherwise leave those PCs out and focus on office and engineering staff.

  • Windows computers only
  • Billing only for users active in the last 30 days

Security first

Manufacturers are a top ransomware target. Security is our number one priority.

A day of downtime on the floor costs more than any software. CyberWall is a security-first managed IT provider. Pair Insights with CyberWall Shield for 24x7 threat detection and response, Microsoft 365 sign-in monitoring, and backup and recovery, all watched by the same team.

  • 24x7 threat detection and response with Shield
  • Backup and recovery for the systems you can't lose
  • Insights and Shield in one console, one login

Notice on the screen

The agent can show a monitoring notice so every employee knows Insights is running.

Activity, not content

Insights records active time, apps and website names. It never logs keystrokes or reads files.

Screenshots only if you ask

Off by default, taken only while someone is active, and deleted after 7, 14 or 30 days.

FAQ

Questions from manufacturers

Can we use Insights on shared shop-floor PCs?

You can, but the data will follow the Windows login. If several people share one login, Insights can't tell them apart. Use individual sign-ins where per-person data matters.

Does Insights track machine uptime or production output?

No. Insights measures computer activity for people. It doesn't connect to machines, PLCs or MES systems.

Will the agent slow down CAD workstations?

The agent is a small Windows service that sends short activity summaries a few times a minute. Its performance impact is negligible.

Can different sites have different schedules?

Yes. Create a team for each site or shift, assign its schedule and goal, and filter every report by team.

Will it block access to sites people shouldn't use?

Insights includes a website blocking list you control. Microsoft, Windows Update and CyberWall sites can never be blocked, so updates and support keep working.
