42 terms used in CyberWall Insights reports and in workforce planning, defined in plain language.
A
- Absenteeism
- A pattern of missing scheduled work. In Insights, a scheduled workday with no computer activity shows as absent in the schedule adherence report. Check time-off records before drawing conclusions.
- Active time
- Time when there is keyboard or mouse input on the computer. Insights records that input happened, never which keys were pressed.
- Activity group
- A named set of apps and sites that serve the same purpose, such as "Email" or "Accounting software." Groups make reports easier to read and can be used in alarm rules.
- Activity log
- A per-event record of apps, window titles, website names and system events such as lock, unlock and sleep. Exportable to CSV.
- After-hours activity
- Computer activity outside a person's scheduled hours. Useful for spotting overload as well as unusual account use.
- Alarm
- A rule that sends a notification when something specific happens, such as a large USB file copy or idle time over a set limit. Insights sends alarms by email, Microsoft Teams, Slack or webhook.
B
- Burnout
- Ongoing exhaustion from work stress. Long hours, few breaks and steady after-hours activity can be early signs.
C
- Capacity
- The amount of work a team can handle in a period. Comparing productive time with goals shows whether a team has room for more or is stretched.
- Category
- The label that marks an app or site as productive, neutral or unproductive. In Insights, categories can be set for the company, a team or one person.
- Context switching
- Moving between tasks or apps. Frequent switching adds hidden time to the day, which is one reason productive time never equals scheduled time.
E
- Early end
- Last computer activity before a person's scheduled end time.
- Employee monitoring notice
- A written or on-screen notice telling employees that activity is monitored. Some states require written notice and acknowledgment. The Insights agent can display a notice.
F
- FTE (full-time equivalent)
- A unit equal to one full-time employee's hours. Two half-time staff equal one FTE. Insights expresses untapped capacity in FTE.
I
- Idle time
- Time the computer is on and signed in with no keyboard or mouse input for a period. Phone calls, meetings and paper work can show as idle.
- Insider risk
- The chance that someone with legitimate access harms the company, intentionally or by accident. Examples include copying client files when leaving or sharing data through personal accounts.
L
- Late start
- First computer activity after a person's scheduled start time.
M
- MDR (managed detection and response)
- A security service in which a team monitors systems for threats around the clock and responds when something is found. CyberWall Shield is CyberWall's MDR service.
- MFA (multi-factor authentication)
- A sign-in that requires a second proof of identity beyond a password, such as a code from an app. Required on every Insights login.
- Microsoft Intune
- Microsoft's service for managing company devices. CyberWall deploys the Insights Windows agent through Intune.
N
- Neutral time
- Active time in apps or sites that are neither clearly work nor clearly not, such as a search engine.
O
- Occupancy
- A contact center measure: the share of time agents are handling customer contacts out of the time they are available to handle them.
- Over-utilization
- Productive time well above goal for a sustained period. Often a sign of overload.
P
- Presenteeism
- Being at work but not fully productive, for example due to illness, stress or distraction. Activity data can hint at it, but only a conversation explains it.
- Productive time
- Active time spent in apps and sites categorized as productive for that person.
- Productivity achievement
- How often, or how closely, a person or team reaches their productive-hours goal.
- Productivity goal
- The target number of productive hours per day for a role. Best set from what steady performers already do.
Q
- Quiet quitting
- A popular term for doing only the minimum a job requires. A gradual decline in activity can be one signal. Treat it as a reason to talk about engagement and workload.
R
- Real-time view
- A live report of who is active, idle or offline right now, with their current app and productive share today.
S
- Schedule
- A named set of start time, end time, break and workdays assigned to employees.
- Schedule adherence
- How closely actual working hours match scheduled hours. Insights reports late starts, early ends and absences.
- Screen time
- Total time a computer is on and signed in during the day, active or idle.

- Shrinkage
- A workforce planning measure: the share of paid time when staff are unavailable for their main work because of breaks, training, meetings, absence or leave.
- Site name
- The domain of a website, such as youtube.com. Insights records site names only, never full URLs or page content.
T
- Turnover
- The rate at which employees leave and are replaced. Often measured annually as a percentage of headcount.
U
- Under-utilization
- Productive time well below goal for a sustained period. May indicate spare capacity, unclear priorities or a need for support.
- Unproductive time
- Active time in apps or sites categorized as unproductive for that person.
- Untapped capacity
- The gap between goal and actual productive hours across a team, often expressed in FTE.
- Utilization
- Productive time as a share of available or goal time. A utilization of 80% against a 6-hour goal means about 4.8 productive hours.
W
- Webhook
- A web address that receives automatic messages from another system. Insights can send alarm notifications to a generic webhook.
- Work time
- Time between first and last activity in a day, used in the daily work metrics report.
- Workforce analytics
- Using data about how work gets done to plan staffing, balance workload and improve processes.
